Hi there!

My name is Amy Baylosis, and I am passionate about literacy, and helping those kids who are quietly slipping through the cracks.  I have dedicated the last 15 years to what is now called the science of reading-the existing body of knowledge that research has provided about what makes for good reading instruction.

I am a certified special education teacher, and taught in public elementary schools in Illinois and California for 10 years.  But about 5 years into my teaching career, I began to use the Barton Reading & Spelling System for private tutoring clients after school (because, teacher salary...).

When I quit teaching in the public schools to focus on tutoring, I quickly grew a full practice. I've continued to use Barton, but have also been trained through the Orton-Gillingham Academy and Dyslexia Training Institute to expand my skills.  I've worked with over 75 students who are identified or suspected of having dyslexia to remediate their reading and spelling skills.  And I believe I've only scratched the surface of what I was meant to do.

I specialize in students with dyslexia and ADHD, the Barton Reading & Spelling System out of the box and with modifications, personalizing lessons for students, and creating skill-specific lessons, games, and activities to build fluency.
